The history of this wine dates back to '800, being produced only with "Sangiovese" variety grapes, locally known as "Brunello" (because of its colour); as for other Italian wines, all winemaking operations, storage and bottling must take place in the defined geographical area characterizing it.
The success did not come immediately because of the high cost of the product, which derives from the scrupolous care of the vineyard management.
The economic boom during the postwar period enhanced demands and as a consequence it diffused the knowledge of this great quality wine, both in Italy and in the whole world.
This is a wine that requires long periods of aging prior to its release not earlier than 5 years, inside vintage aged oak barrels and for the remaining time inside bottles.
Qualifications as a "reserve" are assigned depending on the period of rest; it is a wine of great longevity, the more it ages the more it improves!
It 's easy to find vintages from 10 to 30 years of age and over.
Another feature of this wine is the bottle "Bordeaux" (slender short-necked) of different sizes; it should be stored properly in a cool dark cellar, at a constant temperature, without noise or odours and kept in a horizontal position.

Aroma: a distinctive and intense aroma with hints of fruit and vanilla, but also aromatic wood and underbrush;

Packaging : Brunello di Montalcino can only be marketed if it is packaged in Bordeaux type bottles.
